Specialists
DEFINITION OF
QUALITY
By definition,
"quality" is a degree of excellence. By On & Offshore Quality Control
Specialists definition, "quality" is a measurement of perfection
used to evaluate the construction efforts by the contractor set forth in the engineering
specifications and designs. Total quality would be achieved by having one inspector per
contractors employee.
DEFINITION OF INSPECTION
By definition,
"inspection" is checking or testing against established standards; a careful
examination. By On & Offshore Quality Control Specialists definition,
"inspection" is scrutinizing the Contractor to insure that they are constructing
the project according to the engineers specification and designs provided by the
Client Company. Our primary function is to be the clients "eyes and ears."
DEFINITION OF INSPECTOR
By definition, "inspector" is a person employed to inspect
something. The following description represents the responsibilities and duties of an On
& Offshore Quality Control Specialists Inspector. An inspector functions as the
judicial representative of Client Company in observing the quality of work which the
contractor has agreed to do. The Inspector's primary function is to inspect the
contractor's work to see that it meets the requirements of the contract.
The Inspector holds a position of responsibility and should conduct himself with good
character, ability and common sense. He should observe the rules and regulations
pertaining to personal conduct and safety as established by the Client Company.
All of the following are essentials that cannot be treated lightly by
the Inspector who wishes to do his job conscientiously.
- Physical condition of the Inspector must be sufficient in order to fulfill his duties.
- Good vision is vital to an Inspector. Corrective aids (such as glasses) if required,
must be used during the inspection process.
- The Inspector's attitude determines the degree of his success or failure. For success,
he is dependent upon the cooperation of his associates in all departments, and he must
command their respect in order to obtain it. All of his decisions must be considered
impartial and consistent. A definite policy of inspection procedures and standards has
been adopted by the Client Company and must be followed faithfully.
- Since the Inspector must be familiar with all drawings and specifications that apply to
the project he is to inspect, he must be able to read and thoroughly interpret the
drawings and specifications.
- An Inspector should be able to maintain adequate records. The inspection reports should
be concise, yet complete enough to be clear to a reader unfamiliar with the work
inspected. Good records protect the Inspector and also help him adhere to a policy of
uniform standards. The Client Company will supply all the forms and specifications to be
reported on.
- A number of test methods are available to the Inspector to help him determine whether
the work meets the quality standard. He must be capable of evaluating the test method to
determine if adequate information was yielded for established acceptance standards.
- The attitude and point of view of a good Inspector is acquired only though inspection EXPERIENCE
which broadens his knowledge and gives his opinion more authority if he is requested to
offer constructive criticism when rejecting poor work.
